TJPDC Announces New Executive DirectorThe Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission is pleased to announce the appointment of Harrison Bright Rue as its Executive Director effective January 1, 2002, following the retirement of Nancy K. O'Brien on November 30, 2001. Mr. Rue is a planner, developer, trainer, and founder of the Citizen Planner Institute, whose workshops have gained national attention for their practical approach to complex urban design, transportation, and sustainability issues. Rue has more than 30 years of hands-on experience in construction, real estate development, planning and design, historic preservation, community organizing, and process facilitation. Please join the Planning District Commissioners and staff for a reception in honor of Mr. Rue. The reception will be held on Thursday, February 7 at 4:00 p.m. in the TJPDC office. If you would like to contact Mr. Rue personally to welcome him to the Planning District, he can be reached at (434) 979-7310 or 2002 TJPDC Legislative ProgramThe 2002 TJPDC Legislative Program, which highlights regional positions in areas such as education funding, transportation, the Comprehensive Services Act, tax structure and reform, and land use and growth management, has now been finalized. Also, you can check out the TJPDC website for information about local government issues that are being debated at the General Assembly, which convened January 9. Major issues and action will be highlighted in a legislative newsletter published every 7 - 10 days. If you have questions about any legislative issue or the 2002 TJPDC Legislative Program, please contact David Blount at (434) 979-7310 or Thomas Jefferson Venture Releases Employment Survey ResultsThe Thomas Jefferson Venture is releasing the results of the Employment Survey, which was completed Spring 2001 by VCU. The survey was undertaken in January 2001 and includes a sampling of residents from all member localities of the Thomas Jefferson Planning District. The survey includes questions about commuting habits, computer use, job training, and education among other items. Persons working in economic development, job training, transportation or human services will be interested in using the information to better align their services and plans with the needs of area residents. The results of the survey are available online at www.tjpdc.org/venture/employment_survey_full_report.pdf. If you have questions or comments about the plan, please contact the Thomas Jefferson Venture at (434) 979-7310 or Chris Gensic Appointed To Bikewalk Virginia Board Of DirectorsChris Gensic, a Transportation Planner at the TJPDC, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of BikeWalk Virginia, which is a group dedicated to educating the public and elected officials about the benefits of bicycling and walking to people and communities. If you would like to learn more about BikeWalk Virginia, please contact Chris Gensic at (434) 979-7310 or New Planning District CommissionersEffective January 1, 2002, there are four new commissioners on the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission. These new faces include Jeri Allen, representing the Greene County Board of Supervisors; David Morgan, MD, representing the Louisa County Board of Supervisors; Mel Sheridan, representing the Fluvanna Board of Supervisors; and Grant Tate, who is the Citizen Representative from Fluvanna County. They are replacing Steve Catalano from Greene County, Jane Poore from Louisa County, Len Gardner from Fluvanna County, and Thomas Payne from Fluvanna County.
