Transit Study Conducted

TJPDC conducted a study, with JAUNT, for the Nelson County Economic Development Authority (EDA) of a fixed route transit to serve the Wintergreen Resort and Rockfish Valley areas. Citing drastically reduced homebuilding and construction in those areas, the EDA believed that adding such a fixed route would increase tourism value and provide much-needed transportation alternatives to residents, guests and employees of the area. The Nellysford Community Plan (2007) had included recommendations for transit service within the Rockfish Valley area.

HOME Consortium

In the past fiscal year (July 1, 2008 to June 30, 200) the HOME Consortium drew down $1,027,373 in HOME funds, excluding administrative funds. Fifteen percent of HOME funds are reserved for Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) projects. Remaining funds are evenly distributed among the six localities.

The Nelson County Community Development Foundation (NCCDF) rehabilitated one owner-occupied home and developed two rental properties during the year. An additional owner-occupied rehabilitation was initiated as well as development of two rental units.

Legislative Efforts

TJPDC worked with state legislators representing Nelson County to secure approval of legislation to:
1)
revise ABC laws for the benefit of Eades Distillery, and
2) to designate August 20, 2009, as a day of remembrance of the 40th anniversary of Hurricane Camille, which caused widespread damage and loss of life in Nelson County.
