2004 – Competitive Grant – JABA Adult Day Health Care
The Department of Rehabilitative Services (DRS) awarded a competitive RSIF Grants for FY 2004 to the DSB for the Jefferson Area Board for Aging (JABA) to increase access to adult day health care (ADHC) services for low income people with disabilities in Greene County. RSIF funding was used to provide scholarships to subsidize ADHC services for people with physical or sensory disabilities who could benefit from ADHC but cannot afford to pay the full cost. ADHC provides a safe, therapeutic, and enjoyable daytime environment for adults of any age who require extra supervision during the day, or help with activities of daily living. Services included: health care management; assistance with personal care and other activities of daily living; therapeutic recreational activities such as music and horticulture therapy, crafts and games; safety supervision; socialization, including intergenerational activities, and; respite, counseling and support groups for caregivers. A hot lunch was also provided. A total of 11 different clients were served, with the grant subsidizing 316 days of service.
2002
RSIF Grants for FY 2002 were approved for funding by the Disability Services Council. Services under these grants will be provided during the period between June 1, 2001 and May 31, 2002.
- Digital Audio Initiative - Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic. This one-year grant converted two analog recording booths into digital recording booths
- Universal Design Resource Library - Piedmont Housing Alliance. –The Universal Design Library Collection, consisting of 27-items of books and other media on barrier-free, universal design were placed at two branches of the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library (Greene County and Louisa County) and the Fluvanna County Library. Training sessions on Universal Design were also provided.
2001
RSIF Grants for FY 2001 were approved for funding by the Disability Services Council. Services under these grants will be provided during the period between June 1, 2000 and May 31, 2001.
- The Nursing Assistant Institute - Jefferson Area Board for Aging: This is a one-year proposal to improve the quantity and quality of health care services provided to people with chronic illnesses and others with disabilities. The Nursing Assistant Institute is focused on providing an appropriately trained and stable work force of direct care providers to meet the diverse health care needs of the community. This project will provide a single class for ten Certified Nursing Assistants that will include tuition, materials, childcare, transportation, job placement assistance, mentoring, and support meetings.
- Loan Closet of Assistive Technology - Independence Rehab Discounters. This one-year proposal will increase the level of independence of individuals with disabilities through the creation of a revolving "loan closet" of adaptive equipment and assistive technology.
Modular Ramps – Louisa County Housing Foundation. This one-year proposal will provide portable, modular aluminum ramps to consumers who have physical disabilities. These ramps can be installed quickly and reused in other locations as needs change.
