Coalition for Housing Opportunity

The Coalition for Housing Opportunity is a regional campaign to promote the message “Housing is the foundation of community prosperity.” This campaign is intended to take a broad approach to the issue of housing, looking at all income levels, rental housing and home ownership, and viewing housing from a region-wide perspective. This effort will engage a wide group of stakeholders with a shared interest in community prosperity by linking an adequate supply of safe and decent housing with health, education, transportation, accessibility and workforce development. The coalition intends to

• Achieve greater awareness of the housing needs in this region
• Increase knowledge of and support for existing resources
• Achieve a more favorable regulatory environment and funding support for the provision of safe, decent and affordable housing.

The Coalition for Housing Opportunity has produced a series of seven papers on the importance of housing opportunity for all residents of greater Charlottesville. The series assesses the current state of housing affordability and availability in our region and draws connections between housing and a number of goals we share as a community.
