The first local budget submission is due Friday, November 16, 2007. Submissions must include a proposed budget for FY09. The Leadership Team has proposed a holiday open house for the public and Commission members, with a tentative date of December 13, 2007. The Commission members will discuss the merits of the proposal, including the timing of the open house (lunch or late afternoon).

Director of Transportation Programs

Melissa Barlow will be joining the TJPDC staff on November 7 as the Director of Transportation Programs. Her previous role was that of Federal Programs and Grants Manager at the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT), overseeing millions in federal and state funding assistance programs for statewide and regional rail and transit studies, transit, ridesharing and transportation demand management programs. Prior to joining DRPT in 2005, Barlow was an 8-year veteran Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) employee.  She graduated from their three-year Engineer Trainee program in 2000, and from 2000 until 2005 served as Assistant Resident Engineer in both the Charlottesville and Louisa Residencies, responsible for construction, maintenance, land development, and transportation planning activities and programs.

Coordinated Human Services Transportation Plan Workshop

The Department of Rail and Public Transportation and TJPDC will be hosting a workshop (Friday, 11/30/07, 9:00am to 1:00pm) for public and service provider input into the draft Coordinated Human Services Transportation Plan, which is being developed on a statewide basis by a DRPT consultant. An invite letter will be sent out closer to the workshop; you may want to alert your DSS or health staff to save the date.
