Implementation Advisory Committee

Harrison Rue has been appointed by Secretary Homer to the Implementation Advisory Committee for the new Secondary Street Acceptance Requirements regulation. The Committee's first meeting is on September 4th. If Commissioners have an interest in commenting on street designs issues, please contract Harrison. Appointment letter enclosed.

TJPDC Awarded FTA Grant to address Public Participation in Public Transportation

TJPDC was recently awarded a grant as part of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) of the Public Transportation Participation Pilot Program. Through this program, TJPDC will develop a Regional Transit Assessment Toolkit will solicit feedback from current users of the public transportation system (transit, walking, wheeling) to determine if the existing public transportation service responds to their needs.  The Toolkit will also solicit feedback from people who do not currently utilize alternatives to driving alone, to determine what changes would meet their access and mobility needs and attract them to the benefits of using public transportation. The grant award is for $100,000.

RideShare Appreciation Week

RideShare, TJPDC, and Piedmont Workforce Network will be hosting "Awards Luncheon and Workshop: Being a Commuter Friendly Employer" on Tuesday, October 16th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This event will give employers an opportunity to hear examples of commuter benefits on state and local levels, learn smart ways to deal with expansion and parking issues, discover ways to empower and retain employees, hear actual examples from other area employers, and find out how to become commuter-friendly at little or no cost.  Butch Davies, the Culpeper District's Commonwealth Transportation Board Member will be a guest speaker as well as representatives from several employers. Awards will also be given to companies that are on the forefront of being commuter-friendly employers. This event is part of RideShare's 3rd Annual Awareness and Appreciation Week.
