On March 17, 2010 the Greene County Planning Commission held a public hearing on the draft 2010 Comprehensive Plan. After careful consideration of public comments and discussion by the members of the Planning Commission, it was adopted by the Planning Commission on April 21, 2010. This adopted Plan now goes to the Board of Supervisors for final review and adoption.

With a Virginia Department of Transportation Multimodal Planning Grant, Greene County and the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission worked with the Renaissance Planning Group to study the US 29 corridor from the Albemarle County line to Ruckersville and the US 33 corridor from the Orange County Line to the western end of the Stanardsville bypass.This study analyzed future growth patterns and developed multimodal transportation solutions for the US 29 and 33 corridors to accommodate that growth. It includes strategies for improvements to 29 and 33, a better-connected network of local roads to protect through-capacity, pedestrian and bicycle improvements in the developing areas, improved business access, and coordination between Greene County Transit and regional transit service.

Where we choose to live and work matters. How our places are connected matters. As part of the Corridor Study, Renaissance Planning Group worked with the County to develop a preferred growth scenario through a series of community workshops. Scenario planning is an opportunity to create and test how different land use patterns affect our transportation system. Scenario planning helps us understand where and how we can improve roads and mobility in our community.

Findings and recommendations from this multimodal study can be used as inputs to the comprehensive plan update.
