In 2004 the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission and the MPO Policy Board adopted UnJAM 2025. The Plan captured local visions for land use and transportation growth and development, while achieving a regional consensus on priority projects and strategies.

Nearly five years have passed since UnJAM 2025 was adopted and it is time to check in with the region! TJPDC is preparing UnJAM 2035, the update to the long range plan, and we want to hear from you. We want to know if your priorities have changed and what new issues are important to you. UnJAM.org is our online communication hub for the long range plan. Here you can share your comments, review our newest and most innovative transportation and land use studies, and learn more about the upcoming UnJAM 2035 Regional Summit. Please TAKE THE SURVEY and take advantage of this opportunity to contribute to the long-range plan for our region.

TJPDC Receives 2007 Transportation Research Board Award

The TJPDC was recognized in the graphics category of "Communicating with John and Jane Q. Public". The award was given in recognition of our "Street Capacity Exercise" used in conjuction with the Places29 and UnJam public workshops. The purpose of the exercise was to compare how different forms of transportation – pedestrians, bicyclists, transit, and cars – fill our streets. Illustrating the extra capacity we gain by converting trips from private auto to transit, walking and biking. Examples (including photos, poster and powerpoint presentation) can be found here.

Hardware and Rivanna TMDL Public Comment

The Department of Environmental Quality is continuing to accept comment on the Hardware and Rivanna River TMDLs (Total Maximum Daily Loads) throughout the TMDL process. Work on the Hardware River TMDLs is currently focused on accurately modeling flow in the river in order to best identify different fecal bacteria sources needed to meet water quality standards. In the Rivanna River watershed, the bacterial TMDL focus is on quantifying the sources of pollution, while for the benthic macroinvertebrate TMDL, the stressor identification has just been completed. Lack of diversity in the macroinvertebrate community, an indicator of poorer water quality, is probably caused by sediment and urban runoff.
